Stauffer Diesel is a distributor of high-quality industrial diesel engines, as well as a comprehensive resource that sells, services and supports the full lines of DEUTZ diesel engines and Mitsubishi diesel engines. The company, based in Ephrata, PA, is also a manufacturer of diesel electric generators, the smallest of which provide power for life-saving equipment in ambulances and the largest powering locomotives.
Before Stauffer Diesel began working with CompuData, the company operated with an antiquated inventory system with plagued with issues such as inaccurate inventory quantities – disrupting sales and manufacturing processes. The disruptions make it difficult for clients to order parts – and difficult for Stauffer Diesel to sell parts. The company’s chief paint points revolved around the need for process improvement.
“I wanted to push data into the shops and get data out of the shops in an automated fashion,” shares Jay David Stauffer, IT Manager at Stauffer Diesel. In 2012, the company began searching for a solution to its inefficiencies and operational waste. After an exhaustive process, the company made a decision in early 2015 to move forward with the implementation of Epicor Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to enable the company to drive data-driven decisions – mitigating risk in its inventory management process.
“Before Epicor, our biggest problems were where are the parts I need to do my job, what is the state of our inventory,” Stauffer explains. “With CompuData’s expertise, we implemented Epicor to solve our inventory accounting, get the right numbers on our balance sheets, significantly improve our physical inventory process and reduce the process by hundreds and hundreds of hours.”
For Stauffer Diesel, the move to Epicor, with CompuData as Stauffer Diesel’s technology partner, was all about scalability and growth.
