Did you know that Cloud Business Intelligence (BI) is reaching a tipping point?

With more and more businesses adopting cloud technologies to operate in a more effective, scalable data management environment, organizations are lowering costs, speeding deployments, improving corporate collaboration and increasing data security by adopting cloud applications. These applications are driving real-time operations analysis, with advanced dashboard analytics capabilities.

In a recent online survey conducted by research and consulting firm Eckerson Group, more than 370 business leaders running organizations with 250 to 2,500 employees, shared their views on cloud BI. Here’s some of the exciting takeaways.

  • Companies are embracing the cloud in general and cloud BI with 25% committed to cloud computing, while a slightly higher percentage (28%) view the cloud as strategic to their BI and data management programs. This viewpoint has translated into a sharp rise in the use of cloud BI, which has risen from 29% to 43% in three years, a hard to ignore 48% increase.

  • When it comes to data management, a large percentage of organizations use the cloud to integrate cloud applications with each other and with on-premises applications. As more businesses move to the cloud, the need to support hybrid cloud architectures will grow increasingly unavoidable.

  • The clear majority of organizations use the cloud to deliver reports and dashboards, as the cloud is a convenient way to publish and share report output to a broad distributed user base.

  • Flexibility and cost are the two biggest reasons why companies run BI in the cloud, followed by scalability, speed of implementation and reduced hardware/software maintenance. Not surprisingly, the elimination of hardware and infrastructure costs tops the chart, followed by scalability, lower administration costs and deployment speed.

  • Turning over the duties of infrastructure and maintenance to vendors frees organizations to focus on analytics, not hardware – so they can work on business growth, rather than business maintenance. With that in mind, 78% are planning to increase the use of cloud for BI and data management in the next 12 months.

Understanding the way your business operates in real time is the key to better business decisions and operational growth. For organizations that want to achieve scalable, sustainable growth, cloud BI delivers the competitive advantage of operational metrics for better business insights.
